Management

Management focuses on the effective management of organisations and will equip you for career opportunities at a time when the need for economic competitiveness is placing an increasing focus on the role of the manager.

Completion of the major will give you an understanding of the functions and development of organisations, interactions with local and international environments, management of people, marketing of goods and services, and strategic decisions that direct and harmonise all activities.

Management can be studied as a major in the Bachelor of Commerce, in BecC and associated combined courses which includes this degree.

Level 1
In the Bachelor of Commerce you will study eight units at Level 1, three of which are compulsory. You must also complete introductory Management units at either Level 1 or 2.

Level 2 and 3
Building on the foundation units of organisational behaviour and organisational theory, the major broadens to include a diversity of topics, namely: human resources, marketing, structure and design, organisational development and international and strategic management.

Other areas of study involving management are Industrial Relations, Human Resource Management and Information Management.

Double majors and minors
A second major may be selected from within the Bachelor of Commerce, the Bachelor of Economics, or from programs within the Faculties of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences or Life and Physical Sciences.

There are also a number of minors available.

Career opportunities

The range of managerial skills that are acquired and developed in the Management major should open doors to a variety of careers opportunities in supervision and administration in industry, commerce and public administration. Recent employers of UWA management graduates include Clough Engineering, Myer, Platinum Technology, Saladin, Heytesbury Holdings Pty Ltd and Darling Harbour Hotels.
